Pauline was born August 1, 1912 in Shawneetown, Illinois as Pauline Geraldine Saffer and she entered into her eternal rest peacefully Thursday, December 29, 2005 in Bakersfield, California. Pauline is preceded in death by her husband, Walter Barnard and her parents, Grant and Ethel Saffer. She is survived by her three sons, Rev. Jerry Barnard of Daytona Beach, FL, Harold Barnard of Huntington Beach, CA and Rev. David Barnard of Fort Worth, TX Pauline is also survived by her six grand children and nine great grandchildren; sister, Margie Lockler of Bakersfield, CA; sister, Bette Mayberry of Carmi, IL and her nephew, Don Lockler of Posey, CA.

Pauline and her late husband Walter Barnard were married August 1, 1931. Together they both received the call for ministry soon after their marriage. Pauline and her husband launched into full time ministry in the middle of the Great Depression. Walter quit his job in 1935 as a foreman at General Motors, accepting the position of pastor of a small church in Lake Odessa, MI. Together they pastored eleven churches in MI, IL and California. Pauline, along with her husband, were pastors of the Glad Tidings Assembly of God in Bakersfield which later merged with another Assembly of God to form one larger Assembly.

Pauline continued faithfully serving her Lord and others after the passing of her husband in 1972. Returning to Bakersfield to live, she remained active in both church and one on one ministry and counseling. She was loved by all that knew her and she will be deeply missed.

At the Bakersfield Celebration, Roger Norwood, Director of Creative Arts First Assembly of God, Bakersfield, CA, and long time friend, opened in prayer.

Pauline's last request was "If I don't go in the rapture, I don't want a funeral, I want a Celebration Service." Her two minister sons, Jerry and David, both lead the Celebration Services singing special songs and speaking. Also sharing were, Don Lockler, nephew of Pauline, Steven Barnard, grandson, pastor of Metro Church, San Diego, CA. Sandy Lynn Barnard, granddaughter sang a special song. Sandi Barnard, daughter-in-law, wife of Jerry, shared from Proverbs 31. Music and song was provided by Sharon Peck Elmore. Sharon sang "When I make My Last Move" as requested by Pauline. There were about 75 in attendance.

At the Graveside Celebration Pastor Orvel Phillips of The Lord's Church, Bellflower, CA opened in prayer. Jerry and David Barnard lead the Celebration. Also sharing comments were Elie Barnard, wife of Harold Barnard and Michael Barnard, grandson and the son of Harold Barnard. There were about 22 in attendance.

As Pauline's Graveside Celebration Services was closing the song "Come To Jesus" was played while each attendee released balloons and watched as they floated slowly upward into the sky.

Pauline's next to the last move . . .think that was why she requested the song "When I make my last move." Don, David, Darlene and Linda moving . Looks like the Bakersfield Beverly Hillbillies.

Pauline always said "When the Lord want to take me to heaven, He will just put me to sleep and stop my heart and I'll wake up in heaven." On December 29, 2005 at 10:03am after a complete breakfast, she laid back in her bed, closed her eyes and went to heaven. Countless numbers of souls will be in heaven as a result of her Godly life and loving ministry to anyone who was in need or hurting. This web page is a celebration of the life and ministry of Pauline Geraldine Barnard.

"Precious in the sight of the Lord, is the death of His saints."
