Grandfather & Grandmother

Christopher Barnard married Edna America Stevens in Kentucky. When Christopher asked to marry Edna, Grandma Stevens had one request –“Raise your children in church.” There were 6 children born to Christopher and Enda in the Hardin County, Kentuckey area. Four boys and two girls. In 1928, the entire Christopher and Edna Barnard generaltion moved from the logging mill Christopher operated, to Pontiac, MI., for jobs in the auto industry, where all their children were raised as in church as promised to Grandma Stevens. They became members of First Baptist Church. It was in August 1931 that Walter and Pauline both commited their lives to Jesus Christ during a Tent Revival held in Pontiac by an Assemblies Of God Evangelist, Rev. Cox. Within weeks, Walter and Pauline were teaching Sunday School. Soon after, Walter was asked to accept a church and be the pastor. This was the begaining of a toal of 11 churches he would pastor in three states; IL, MI and CA.

Walter Mason Barnard while pastoring Faith Tabernacle, Flint, MI. had the joy of being with his father, Chrisopher, (Chris) Barnard the night he accepted Christ into his life. It was at a Tent Meeting held by Evangelist Oral Robers. Walter was one of the Pastors that brought Oral to Flint, MI in the late 1950's. Chrisopher Barnard passed away in May 1960. His wife, Edna continued to live and serve Christ. Eda went to be with the Lord in the mid 1980's

Walter Mason Barnard and wife Pauline Geraldine Saffer were blessed with three sons. Gerald (Jerry), Harold (Barney) and David. Jerry Barnard pastors in Daytona Beach, FL. Only heaven knows how many young men and women lives were touched and changed by the ministry of Walter and Pauline Barnard. Many entered full time ministry, while others came to know Christ and have been a vital part of local churches and ministries.

Walter Mason Barnard remained in full time ministry until the Lord called him home on October 4, 1972 in Paramount CA. He was 62 years of age just two months away from his 63rd birthday. Pauline, his wife, continued on in ministry.
